Five Reasons to have Two Car Keys

08/22/2022

Having two keys for your car is something that most people do not think about until it is too late. When someone locks their only set of keys in the car or they lose their only key they finally think, "I really need two keys for my car!". By that time it is too late and it will usually cost them more than it would have cost them to just get a second key.

Here are Five Reasons that you should have Two Keys for your Car:

1) It will save you money:

Adding a second key to your vehicle is much less expensive than trying to get keys made when you have no keys. If you do not have any keys for your vehicle it can be 3-4x more expensive to get keys made compared to making a second key. It is more expensive because there is more work to be done to make a new key and in some cases the computer needs to be reflashed in order to add new keys.

2) It will save you time:

If you lose your only set of keys it may make you late for work or an appointment. A

locksmith may be able to help you out within 24 hours and get you back on the road. If you need to use your car dealer you will need to tow your car to them (costing you more money) and then you will need to wait for them to make and program you another key.

3) Easier with two drivers:

Many households have multiple drivers and having two keys for your car will make life a

little easier. If you only have one key you run the risk of someone accidentally taking the car key that you need that day, making you late for the day. There is also a greater chance of losing that one key. Having two keys will make everyone's life a little easier.

4) Unlock your car if the keys are locked inside:

This is another way that having two sets of keys will save you money in the long run. If

you lock your keys in the car you can use your second set of keys to get into the car. Depending on the time of day and your location a locksmith may charge you $75-$250 to unlock your car for you. Depending on the car that is the same price as adding a second key.

5) Peace of Mind:

Even if you are the only driver and the second key is not being used, it still makes sense to have a spare car key stored somewhere safe. This removes the worry of losing your key and gives you a backup option if you can't find your key. If you are running late you can take the spare key and find the missing key later when you have time.

At first the cost to add a second key may seem expensive, but once you compare it to the cost of not having a second key you begin to see that getting a second key will save you money in the long run. Give us a call to discuss making a second key for your car to help save you money and give you peace of mind!
